Volunteering & Advisory services

As we approach 2050, the challenge to meet our net-zero commitments becomes ever more pressing. David is experienced in both academic geoscience and the energy industry, including oil & gas, CCS, geothermal, energy storage, and wind power. He is available to offer advice and guidance to organisations on their decarbonisation efforts, route to net-zero, and outreach/accessibility issues - particularly in tertiary education in the geosciences.
The Geological Society of London
In 2024, David joined the new Equality, Diversity, Inclusion, & Accessibility subcommittee of the Geological Society, and was later elected Vice-Chair. David is a passionate advocate for widening access and participation in geoscience, and combatting the decline in university admissions to geology courses. STEM Outreach & The Royal Society
Since 2021, David has been engaged as a STEM partner with a Lincolnshire school, and helped to successfully apply for grant funding from the Royal Society to build a drone-based science outreach programme. 'The drone group' is currently exploring the impacts of climate-induced storm events on coastal geomorphology, and hopes to publish their findings soon.
Sedimentologika
In May 2024, David joined the steering committee of Sedimentologika, a Diamond Open-Access journal for the publication of research in the field of Sedimentology. David is a practising sedimentologist and researcher, and has since taken an active role in the running of the journal's social media accounts. You can find out more about the journal, and Open Access publishing generally, on the Sedimentologika website: Sedimentologika (unige.ch)
Arts sector charity work
David is also involved in charity work, as Chair of the Future Leaders Committee of the Cathedral Music Trust.
